Director of YouTube featurette Kung Fury, David Sandberg is releasing a series of NFTs in celebration of Halloween. Each original character has the chance of appearing in his future films.
About David Sandberg and Kung Fury
David Sandberg is a 35-year-old director and producer who’s most known for his film Kung Fury that was crowdfunded then released on YouTube. Kung Fury is a short film that was released in 2015. Sandberg wrote, directed and starred in the action/comedy film.
In terms of the story: In 1985, Kung Fury, the toughest martial artist cop in Miami, goes back in time to kill the worst criminal of all time – Kung Führer, a.k.a. Adolf Hitler. Notably, it also featured a cameo from Hollywood Superstar, David Hasselhoff who did the voice of “Hoff 9000”. You can view the 30-minute film on YouTube or Amazon Prime.
About the NFTs from the Kung Fury Director
The Kung Fury director’s NFTs are called Unicorn Masters. They are an original NFT series inspired by the action figures of Sandberg’s childhood in the ’80s and ’90s. The first drop is movie monsters, and it’s obviously timed well for the celebration of Halloween.
Each of the 15 single-edition Ethereum NFTs takes the form of an animated 3D render, featuring a glossy sheen to complete the illusion of being a real-deal plastic toy. In general, Sandberg said the release of the collection was a welcome break from the production of the Kung Fury sequel, which is set to release in 2022.
Sandberg stated: “It’s sort of like creating a pool of characters, and just expressing my ideas freely. It was a really fun break, just to be creative and not have any sort of oversight—to just go nuts.”
What’s more, Sandberg plans to tap into these creations on future film projects, which means that the monster NFT someone buys could show up on the movie screen at some point. For now, that’s just a possibility rather than a promise—this is still an “experiment,” he said. The collectors of the NFTs will have a connection to him and can provide feedback for potential future projects.
