The British Museum is gearing up for an NFT drop of Japanese fine art featuring an impressive array of works by famed artist, Hokusai.
To coincide with their epic Hokusai exhibition, the museum has partnered with French tokenising outfit, La Collectible. Together, they will release a limited supply of artworks as non-fungible tokens, with a total of 200 unique pieces making up the collection. 103 of them are from a recently re-discovered, never-before-seen, unpublished book.
Highlights within the collection include Hokusai’s master works, Clear Day with a Southern Breeze, and Ejiri in Suruga Provence. Hokusai is likely the best know Japanese artist of all time, most notably known for infamous seafaring romp, “The Great Wave” which is also featured in the drop.
The public exhibition of Hokusai’s works will run for 4 months from September 30 until January 30, 2022. Correspondingly, the first NFTs will become available on the first day, with the rest staggered throughout the run. La Collectible will release each of the 200 works in editions of varying rarity in a series of auctions and fixed price sales.
